We really suggest you to spend a day in this amazing city, we can guarantee you’ll not be disappointed.
Located at just a few minutes from Faro Airport, if you didn’t had a chance to visit before, think of it on your next visit to Portugal.
What to see in Faro?
Sé Cathedral
Situated in the historic Vila-Adentro area of the city, Faro Cathedral was built on the site of a 13th century church and a former Moorish mosque.
Ravaged by the English attack of the 16th century and the 18th century earthquake, it was rebuilt at the end of the 18th century and is therefore a blend of architectural styles.
The first floor tower and two of its chapels are all that remain of the original church. From its vantage point, you can enjoy the sight of the many storks’ nests adorning the roofs of surrounding buildings
Town Arch
It is one of the most representative examples of neoclassicism in the Algarve. Since December 1st 2015 it houses Arco da Vila Interpretative Center. This cultural venue is destined to promote the town’s history: its establishment, its rebirth after the 1975’s earthquake, until the present day.
Church of Our Lady of Carmel
Built by the Ordem Terceira de Nossa Senhora do Monte do Carmo between 1713 and 1719 this church is a fine example of baroque architecture on a symmetrical facade.
This single nave church, features a chancel and four side chapels decorated with tiles and gilded wood carvings.
St Anthony Street
The perfect place for shopping, or to have a drink while you relax.
There are lots of shops selling local handicraft and it is hard to resist the local almond-based sweets, the Dom Rodrigos, at any one of the city’s pastry shops.
Faro Islands
From Faro City you can get a boat to one of the islands ( Farol and Deserta, the price for return fare to Farol is 5€ and 15€ to Deserta, we really suggest you to visit them.
It will take 20 minutes to get to the island, once there we are sure you’ll be amazed with the view, and the quality of the water.
